Pyrons Slot Machine
Slots by up and coming software house Yggdrasil are nothing if not innovative. Pyrons is no exception, this game combines simple 1-screen play with the potential for big wins – and includes game-play which keeps you entertained along the way. The twist with this game is the progressively bigger wins via a cascade system, similar to the cascading reels found on many WMS slots.
With this feature, your wins explode allowing more symbols to fall into place – hopefully creating even more wins (and then exploding once again). Combine this system with unique ‘glass’ graphics and the chance to get up to 20x wins on any spin, and you can start to see the appeal. I think this slot would work well on mobile devices too, the single screen saving having to wait while different bonus rounds load up.
Graphics combine fruits in glass bowls with a liquid effect. Symbols are the traditional slot game fruits including cherries, plums and oranges. Each one is encased in a glass sphere, with very good effects showing light reflections on them. The fruit inside the bowl is also glass, and contains coloured liquid, which sloshes around (complete with suitable sound effect) as the reels come to rest. This is combined with a glass ‘clinking’ sound as the reels stop.
To add to this there are the explosions when you hit winning combinations. Each line flashes and then explodes with the liquid shooting up and out – allowing more symbols to drop into place. Fire (sometimes orange, other times blue) appears on the reels as your multiplier increases.
There is a happy tune playing in the background reminiscent of a tune you might find in an old Commodore 64 game. The loop is long enough that it does not get too annoying, though I will say there are less irritating slot tunes around!
Setup and Play for Pyrons
20 win lines is a fixed default for this game (with the cascades it would make little sense to play fewer than this anyway). You can select from 1c to €2 per line (20c to €40 total for each spin). I liked the auto-play on this game; this allows you up to 1000 automatic spins. You can configure auto-play and the sound / animations via the settings icon at the bottom left of the reels. You will find the pay table and the game rules in the same set of icons.
The top prize is 2500 coins, which is for 5 of the golden stars. Potentially this could have a 20x multiplier, if it comes after several other wins. You’ll get 200 coins for 4 of the stars, and 30 coins for just 3. The blue 7’s are next with a top pay out of 500 coins for 5. The plum, cherry, lime and orange make up the smaller wins. Again, these start small, but can be multiplied very easily.
There are no wilds, scatters or bonus symbols to tell you about for this slot – the appeal is all right there in the standard game play.
Pyrons – Cascading Wins
Initial wins in this game are paid at the standard rate indicated in the pay table (and summarized above). Each win explodes, allowing more symbols to drop in. If you get a cascade of wins going, then the multiplier for these will soon add up. The second win is at 2x the listed prize, 3rd at 3x, then 5x and finally 20x the prize listed. If you are lucky enough to hit 5 of the top symbols when you are at the 20x multiplier, this would be a win of 50,000 coins – which is pretty good for a slot which can be played for pennies!
What I found is that the majority of the cascades happened with the 3 of a kind (first 3 reels). The multiplied wins were still very welcome though, even the smaller pay outs start to look good when you are multiplying them by 20.
Pyrons – Another Great Game by Yggdrasil
Visually, this slot is excellent – up there with the best for this type of game and unique in the clever combination of glass balls and sloshing liquid. There are no bonus games or other break out features, which puts the emphasis firmly on the game-play, something where this slot maker excels.
Slots by Swedish games company Yggdrasil are becoming more and more popular, and not just at Swedish online casinos. If they continue to make games as good as these, you can expect this trend to continue.
