Alchymedes Slot Machine
Ever wondered what it might be like if you wandered into a Hogwarts style lab made by someone who enjoyed playing high quality slot games? Wonder no more as Alchymedes by Yggdrasil takes you into a magical room filled with chemical delights with gameplay as innovative as the design. There’s no Free Spins or Scatters in sight, but instead a very clever double payline, the coolest wildcard you’ll see, random bonuses and the opportunity to play each level in one of 5 ways. Wasn’t science supposed to be dull?
The Colourful Study of Science
In the short intro you see a hidden cabin by a stream far out into the woods. It’s clear even without the green smoke coming out of the building that this is no ordinary place. Which sets the scene nicely, as this game is different. Rather than head straight to the main page, you get 3 pages highlighting the bonuses and gameplay.
The room itself is wonderfully designed, a combination of library, study and laboratory. There are books in the background and shadows on the wall, but what you’ll notice most outside of the reels is the really cool chemical apparatus. On the left it’s filled with green liquid while on the right it’s filled with red. As well as being different colours, they’re also different funky shapes.
The 5 reels made up of 30 symbols are just as stylish as the background, while adding a bit of brightness. The name of the game at the top is almost easy to miss as the images within the reels are so striking. The detail, colour and texture of each image is a delight, with the dark red background a nice contrast.
The Fun Kind of Chemistry Set
The magic starts even before you’ve started playing. While there are 30 fixed lines, you are in fact playing 60 paylines as you can play both left to right and right to left. The currency, in euros, has 6 coin options in single figures, as well as 8 further options. The minimim bet is 0.30. Look out for the fluids moving around when you make any changes. If you’re feeling confident you can head straight to Bet Max, which is worth 60.00.
There are plenty of great extra options. Top of the chemistry class is the Auto Play. There are options of 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 with 4 more options going up to 1,000. And if you really can’t get enough of the good stuff, an infinite spin. You can also stop Autoplay by choosing a certain amount of a single win, or putting in the amount your cash increases or decreases by. And for those times you thought the spin was too slow or too fast, or even not fast enough, you can alter the level of spin speed to tortoise, hare or somewhere in-between. Seeing as you can also use the bar for spinning, you really are being spoiled.
While the beaker on the left is affected by Wildcards, the 8 symbols on offer are important. There are 4 jars made up of either purple, orange, blue or green, with purple being worth up to 1,000 credits when on maximum. The 4 symbols of spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs don’t follow the traditional colour scheme which adds to the overall style. The payout rate is a more than decent 96.1%.
Bubbling Bonuses
As there are no Scatters or Free Spins, you’ll have to pay attention when reading the instructions both in the Rulebook and by the Paytable. At the end of each winning level, which you get to by getting enough Wildcard points to empty the green liquid, you are offered a chance to change the Alchemist’s Scale. You can either play on a maximum Wild, majority Wild, maximum Multiplier, majority Multiplier or keeping things the same. While the green Wildcard may look more striking, the Multiplier option on the right is also very appealing. It starts at x1 but can go up to x5 randomly during a spin. The level completion Multiplier is capped at x100.
The Random Feature Bonus, when it does occur, takes place after The Alchemist’s Scale and offers great rewards of extra coins that go up to 2,000, improved starting Multipliers, extra pattern positions or Rapid Multiplier growth. While there aren’t Scatters or Free Spins, there is a very unique looking Wildcard. The green toxic of the Wildcard makes up the symbol shown in the beaker on the left, of which there are 15,000 possibilities.
Spellbinding
It’s really worth looking at the instructions before starting as there’s so much variety on gameplay. But it’s totally worth it as this is a fantastic and spellbinding game, which really rewards those who put a lot of thought into each spin.
