Supershots Slots

Nothing can really beat a true, old school slot game for hard-core gamblers. No need for fancy graphics and complicated stories, because no one needs any excuse to gamble, after all. If you agree, then you should probably check out Supershots from Leander Games, which is the most retro version of a video slot game you could possibly wish for.

Supershots was specifically designed to mimic the unique atmosphere of an old-school casino, with buzzing slot machines and other details ready to get you back in time. You even get to play on two different sets of reels at will, and pull the lever to get the game started. All of this, and more, is included in our full review of Supershots right here.

Rise of the Machines

Supershots delivers that realistic casino atmosphere that so many players long for. As a result, the entire game screen is nothing but a row of 3 identical slot machines. The sound effects are kept to a minimum, with buzzing and flashing command buttons scattered all over the surface of the central machine, which you will be using during the game.

Supershots is probably going to be a little polarising. On one hand, you have old-school gamblers who will love the way the game looks right from the start. On the other hand, players who are new to the slot game scene might not feel attracted to such a bulky and flashing virtual slot machine. You will have to see it for yourself to make up your mind.

A Two-Level Gameplay

Supershots has the most old-school gameplay you can possibly think of, which can be both a curse and a blessing. The lower reel set contains a single payline, while the upper set has 5 of them across the 3 reels in total. You need to win some credits in the base game in order to move on to the upper game. Each spin consists of a bet of up to 20 credits, with the paytable on the top of the screen lighting up to show you what kind of rewards you could be expecting.

You can try and multiply each win by 2 by hitting the gamble button, or hold individual reels into place when you feel that you are close to a specific winning combination. That being said, Supershots is a true high-volatility challenge that will prove difficult to crack even for the most experienced players out there – so be warned. Winning big might not be as straightforward as you are used to.

One Shiny Surprise

To keep going with the retro theme of Supershots, the paytable itself contains only fruits symbols. Lemons, oranges, watermelons and more, followed by 7s, bells and a diamond worth at most 200 times your line bet during the game. Diamonds also happen to be wild, ready to replace other symbols to help you out a little.

We didn’t expect to find a lot of bonus features in Supershots. That being said, the entire gameplay and its ultra retro style are basically a gift for old-school gamblers out there. Keep in mind that Supershots is a very challenging slot game, and that beginners should probably stay clear of it until they are a little more familiar with the general mechanisms of a slot machine.

The Most Difficult End of the Spectrum

Retro slots are gaining popularity, and therefore all developers are struggling to come up with new ideas while staying as close to the land-based casino feel as possible. You can find games like Crazy Reels from Mazooma, where you will have to deal with a small 3x3 grid without the help of any bonus feature at all.

Some variations on the same theme include Retro Reels Extreme Reels by Microgaming. Despite its old-school look, this particular game features a larger reel set and very modern bonuses. This includes up to 25 free games and a x2 multiplier. Games such as this one might be a good alternative to the hard-core retro slots such as Supershots.

One Big Challenge Ahead

Supershots was a fun and challenging slot game to test – with extra emphasis on the challenging part. If you have some experience, plus some time and credits to spare, Supershots will turn into a very nice trip down memory lane all the way to the golden age of slot machines. The Leander Games team really managed to recreate that casino atmosphere that we love.

But these qualities act as a double-edged sword as well. What makesSupershots appealing to some will be the very reasons why others will have nothing to do with it. There are practically no bonuses to chase, the rewards are small, the volatility is high and the graphics aren’t that impressive either. You own experience with slot game will determine which category of players you belong to.
