Downton Abbey Progressive Slot Review
The immensely popular TV drama returns to a dual reel set in the Downton Abbey slot from Skywind Group. In our review, we’ll take a closer look at the large variety of slot features that the game studio has developed for this release. We’ll then show you how they play out on the two game windows, and we’ll also check out how you can win one of the three progressive jackpots.
This title follows Aristocrat’s first effort in 2015 to feature the Crawley family in a video slot, which is also called Downton Abbey. Skywind signed a license agreement with rights owners Carnival Film and Television Ltd. for this second slot creation. Read our review to find out more.
A British Aristocrat Family on Slot Reels
The Downton Abbey slot is clearly mobile-optimized, as the vertical arrangement with two reel sets and only generic graphics on each side indicate.
In the background is the feudal home on a rare British sunny day with blue skies, while the entire Crawley family and their servants dominate the reels. The audio is a mixture of a classical orchestral piece with reel sounds and actors’ voices pitching in at various stages of the gameplay.
Skywind went to great lengths to bring the Crawley family members and typical aristocratic items to the reels of the Downton Abbey slot. You will find different pay symbols on each reel set, where only the wild and scatter symbols are identical.
On the lower-paying reels, you will see a clothes brush, a bowl of eggs, a set of keys and a pocket watch. These are followed by six servants at the high-value level. A bell that was normally used to summon a servant is the game’s special symbol, appearing on reel three.
The Downton Abbey slot logo acts as the wild symbol. The game has no fewer than three scatter symbols, each representing one of the bonus features: Duty Calls, Reels of Wealth and Manor on the Move.
On the upper reel set you will find a lady's hat, a pair of teacups, a powder box and a dog. On the high-paying level, there are six members of the Crawley family. Among them is Robert Crawley, the Earl of Grantham.
The Downton Abbey slot logo serves as the wild. The top position on reel three is a family emblem that stays fixed on all spins and acts as a sticky wild symbol. The scatter and bell symbols also appear on the upper reels.
Read the Royal Numbers and Stats
Downton Abbey is an online slots game with two reel sets. Both have five reels and three rows, but they differ in the number of paylines. The lower set has 40 fixed lines, while the upper one has 243 ways to win.
Joining the aristocratic family on the reels will cost you from 1.00 to 300 coins, and you can do that on your desktop or mobile. In turn, you will win 0.15 to 2.5 times your bet when you hit five of a kind across the reels.
The RTP of this medium-variance game has not been confirmed, but we estimate it to be in the region of 95-96%.
The Downton Abbey Base Game Features
In the base game, only the lower reel set is active, and it plays like any other slot. The top position on reel three is the activation zone for the first feature in the Downton Abbey slot machine. As our reviewers found out, the Upstairs Downstairs feature is triggered by landing a golden bell in the zone.
Reel set 2 is now activated, and all logo wild symbols in view on reel set 1 are cloned to the corresponding positions on the upper reel set. A new win evaluation is performed after the transfer. The reel set 2 deactivates again before the next spin starts.
The second base game feature in the Downton Abbey slot is the random Call to Service feature. It can trigger any time the golden bell lands outside the activation zone. One to ten wild symbols are added to the lower reel set, providing you with more potential to score a win.
Visit the Downton Village Flower Show
On every spin in the base game of the Downton Abbey online slot, pay symbols on both reel sets can land marked with a red rose. The bonus game is triggered when five roses appear scattered in one spin. You will be taken to a second screen with 30 pick symbols that contain coin wins from 100 to 750, or a trophy with 1,000 to 5,000 coins.
These pick symbols may also contain the Grantham, the Crawley or the Village jackpot symbol, each of which awards the respective jackpot. Last but not least, there are also Duty Calls, Reels of Wealth or Manor on the Move scatter symbols hidden under the pick symbols.
You can make picks until you reveal two matching scatter symbols. At this point, all coin and/or jackpot wins are accumulated and transferred to the respective free spins feature.
Score Big Wins With Three Free Spins Features
The free spins rounds in the Downton Abbey slot are triggered either via the Downton Village Flower Show bonus game, or directly when a minimum of ten of the respective scatters land in one spin on active game windows.
The number of free spins is 10 when triggered via the Downton Village Flower Show bonus game, or 10 to 28 free spins when three to five scatters land on a spin in the base game. The maximum is 28 free spins which can be retriggered indefinitely.
During the Duty Calls Free Spins, the random Call to Service feature is triggered on every free spin, significantly increasing your chance to hit a big win.
In every round of the Reels of Wealth Free Spins, one of two reel modifiers is applied. All reels except reel three can turn into a stacked Downton Abbey Wild symbol. Alternatively, reel three may contain only wild and golden bell symbols. This will be randomly selected at the start of every free spin. The Call to Service and Upstairs Downstairs features can also trigger on every free spin to further increase your chance to hit a big win.
During the Manor on the Move Free Spins, any Downton Abbey wild landing on a free spin on the lower reel will become a roaming wild for the remainder of the feature. It will move to a random position on every free spin. The Call to Service and Upstairs Downstairs features can again be triggered on any free spin.
Hit Super Mega Wins With Three Progressive Jackpots
This game comes with three progressive jackpots. While reading through the help files, our reviewers of the Downton Abbey slot discovered that roughly 5.9% of each bet contributes to the jackpots.
You can win the jackpots in two ways: either by unveiling a jackpot symbol in the Downton Village Flower Show bonus game, or by these jackpots triggering randomly after any spin in the base game.
The Reels of Wealth Free Spins
The Reels of Wealth Free Spins feature is triggered either via the Downton Village Flower Show bonus game, or directly when a minimum of ten Duty Call scatters land in one spin on active game windows.
