Tropical Holiday Online Slot Review
I have to admit that my first reaction to this slot was wrong. It looked like a simple retro game with blocky symbols that I was not really looking forward to reviewing. It turns out that there are 3 different bonus features, and enough multiple wins over the 25 pay lines to make this game very enjoyable. In fact, if it were not for the overly loud drinking though a straw sound effect, I might even recommend it. This slot does have a jackpot, which is unusual for Play N Go.
As far as the graphics go, I will have to stick with my initial impression. This is a bright and cheerful slot, though nothing special – especially when you compare it to some of the other Play N Go titles. You’ll see a sunbed, cocktails (some in glasses, others in coconuts), a Hawaiian dancer, and a bar among the symbols. Sound effects vary in their volume level, which does take away from the game a little. The ‘party’ symbol gets a few beats going (far louder than most sounds) and the bonus round has a full-on dance track to accompany the speeded up game play while you enjoy your free spins.
In addition to the free spins bonus (which starts with opening a clam), there is a cocktail bonus which is progressive and an underwater pick-em round. All-in all enough going on to keep you entertained and make up for the lack of action on the reels themselves.
Setup and Play for Tropical Holiday
This slot has 25 win lines, rather than the usual 15 or 20 which Play N Go use. You can choose coin values of between 1c and 25c, and up to 5 coins per line. This gives a range of spin amounts from 25c up to $31.25c. Auto play is available.
When it comes to the regular features, the sunbed has the best prize. This is worth 1000 for 5 and 150 for 4. The hula dancer and bar tender are next worth 500 and 300 respectively for 5 on a line. Next some the drinks, which each have smaller wins attached to them.
There are two bonus symbols. One with diving gear and the word bonus, which triggers the treasure dive bonus. The other is a closed clam, 3 of these gives you the free spin feature.
Tropical Holiday Bonus Features
There is a progressive bonus game on this slot, which triggers after you have scored a win with each of the 5 types of cocktail. You get a pop up which shows the 5 drinks, giving you the chance to select one. You then see a meter next to the drink, and hear appropriate noises while it goes up. This can be anything from a few dollars through to the progressive jackpot.
The Treasure Dive is a pick-em game. What happens is that the screen fills with water and you see a selection of chests and barrels at the bottom of the sea. You choose these, which should reveal a coin amount. You then keep choosing until you get one with an octopus, which ends the game.
Finally, the free spins round starts with hitting 3 clams. The first task is to choose a clam, to reveal how many free spins you get. You then get to watch a speeded up version of the normal game, where your wins accumulate at the top of the screen. All wins are doubled during this feature, which can lead to some big windfalls. Expect to hear the music of a big party while you play.
Tropical Holiday – Conclusion
Better than I expected from the first look, this slot turned out to be enjoyable and varied. The symbols do have a retro look to them, though the bonus games and features give away the fact that this is a styling choice rather than a particularly old game.
I liked the treasure dive bonus, managing to accumulate several wins before the round ended each time I hit. Your mileage may vary of course! The free spins was profitable, however the party music did not add anything good to the experience for me.
All-in all a nicely put together game and one which is worth taking for a spin.
