Tower Quest Slot Machine
Fantasy themed slots are common enough online – though I have not played one as good as Tower Quest. If you enjoyed Lord of the Rings, remember Dungeons and Dragons or Magic the Gathering or simply like fantasy games, then this Play N Go slot is a must see. In addition to lavish production, there is plenty going on to keep you engaged. This includes progressive elements, via potions which steadily increase meters on either side of the reels as you play. There is also a break out bonus game, where you get to play cards with the evil Wizard himself.
This is one of the best produced slots I have seen in this genre. The level of detail on the symbols and animations is stunning. You’ll find fiery dragons, skeleton kings, a sinister looking dark tower, elven fighters and what might be a goblin on the reels. The red and blue potions will open when they appear, with an animation taking their contents to one of the meters (vats) on either side of the reels. When these reach certain milestones, you have the choice of taking a bonus or to keep going to reach the next level.
Sounds are dramatic, like a film sound track with lots of dramatic interludes when you hit wins. Even the frame is animated, with the stone dragons sat on either side at the top of the reels particularly impressive.
If the on-reel action is not enough, there are several bonus games to keep you entertained. The red and blue progressive meters each trigger 3 variations of wild and free spins bonuses. In addition the break out card game can result in some nice wins if you manage to defeat the wizard.
Setup and Play for Tower Quest
This is a 20 line slot; these are not changeable, though the size of your coin and the number of coins per line are up to you. You can bet from 1c per line or 20c per spin. The maximum is $100, which is $1 per line and 5 coins per line. There is an auto-play option, which lets you spin up to a huge 2000 times (plenty of smaller options too).
Standard wins might look small to seasoned slots players. You should keep in mind that there are stacked wild symbols in play (and even more of these during the bonus games), which can mean multiple wins for any one spin.
The single biggest wins are from 5 wilds, this comes from the tower symbol, which is stacked (can cover up to 3 reels) and gets you 250 coins. Next comes the male elven fighter, worth 175 for 5 on a line, with the female worth 150. The 3 monsters are worth 125 for the dragon, 100 for the skeleton king and 75 for the goblin. Playing cards (ace down to jack) make up the smaller regular wins.
There are two more special symbols, the potions and the wizard.
Potions do not have any wins of their own. These come in red and blue versions and uncork (with a ‘pop’) to fill out one of the meters at the sides of the reels. The wizard appears on reels 1, 3 and 5 – getting all 3 will trigger the bonus game.
Tower Quest Bonus Rounds
You have a choice with the potion bonuses. There are 3 milestones for each, and when you hit one you can either take your bonus, or wait for the next milestone. The offers get progressively better and are different for the red and the blue potions.
When you hit 10 red potions you can immediately activate 5 free spins, each of which will have a 3x win multiplier. If you wait for 20 red potions you get 5 spins with the two elven fighters as extra wilds. 30 red potions gets you 5 spins with a new sticky wild appearing at for every spin. With 5 for the last spin, plus the possibility of regular wilds, this can sometimes lead to big wins.
Blue potions work differently. 10 gives you 1 free spin with the middle reel completely wild. 20 gets you 1 spin, with all of the monsters plus the elves wild. Wait for 20 and your spin will involve reels 1, 3 and 5 being completely wild.
3 Wizards get you to a break out bonus game. First you choose from the male or female elven fighter to represent you. You then go to a board where you face the wizard. You each roll dice to choose from 6 cards with various monsters on them. Each of you has 3 cards, and these clash to show a winner, taking points from a total score for both of you each round. You can play several rounds of this game, depending on how well your points score holds up. When either your points go, or you defeat the wizard you are shown a prize and the round ends. I was not able to work out exactly how this prize was calculated.
Tower Quest – Conclusion
This is an excellent slot, and one I will definitely be returning to at some point down the line. The graphics are stunning, and the soundtrack goes really well with them – making the game feel edgy and dramatic at certain points. I love the progressive potion bonuses, which give you the feeling of control as to whether you take the bonus early or wait for a bigger one. The break out bonus was complex and entertaining, though a little unclear on exactly how your prize is calculated. Overall I'm a huge fan of Play n Go slots and this game comes with a strong recommendation – check it out for yourself soon.
