Jazz of New Orleans Online Slot
This might not be the only Jazz themed slot around (Jazz Time from PlayTech is perhaps better known), though it is certainly unique. What you’ll immediately notice about this Play N Go game is the jazz soundtrack, which is multi-layered with different instruments taking the lead at different times. Aside from the music, there is plenty to keep you interested in this game. There is a unique pick-em game, which leads to the free spins round. This is all topped by the chance of a progressive jackpot win, with 3 levels of prizes available. Unusually, this slot only has 5 win-lines; I did not find that this took anything away from enjoying the game though.
The graphics look rich, and even a little crowded together. They are set in a night time scene of New Orleans, and each one is very detailed and bright. You will find classic images including a singer, saxophonist, whiskey and view of Bourbon Street. There is even a crab on a plate – representing the famous seafood of the city. The sounds are one of the main reasons to check out this game. From the muted drumming of in the background to the happy swinging tune that plays when you spin. During the bonus games, the music changes up and takes on a whole new intensity level.
Choosing jazz clubs is an unusual way to score free spins, thought that is what will happen if you hit 3+ of the neon signs – more on the bonus features below.
Setup and Play for Jazz of New Orleans
There are only 5 win lines for this game, and these are fixed. This means that you’ll only need to adjust the total bet amount before you play. The coins range from 1c to $2, giving you a range of 5c to $10 for your spins. Auto-play is available, and you’ll get a chance to double or triple your wins in a separate break out pick-em game.
The new Orleans Jazz Club sign is the wild symbol; this also has the biggest prize attached at 200x your bet level for 5 and 100 for just 4. As usual, the wild substitutes for the regular symbols, though not the scatter.
That scatter is the Crescent moon, which pays 75x your total spin amount for 5 of a kind anywhere on the reels, and 25x for 4.
Of the regular symbols, the female singer pays the most (100 coins for 5), followed by the sax player, keyboard and trumpet. The club, sign, crab, whiskey and poster make up the smaller wins. Once again I’ll compliment Play N Go on avoiding clichéd playing card symbols.
The only other notable feature on the reels is that some symbols will have gold rings around them. These are related to the jackpot games, if you get 3 rings, you’ll start the break-out spinning reel games. 4 takes you directly to the 2nd (silver) reel and 5 to the main jackpot wheel (the gold reel). You can progress through them to the bigger jackpots by hitting arrows when you spin.
Jazz of New Orleans – Bonus Features
3 or more neon signs takes you to a 2 step pick-em game, which decides how many free spins and what wild symbols you get. First you choose from 5 jazz clubs, next you choose which instrument you will play. Armed with your spins and wilds, you then return to the reels, with some seriously charged music and can enjoy watching those wins coming in.
The best starting setup is 15 spins and 5 wild instruments. You can retrigger from within the bonus game, up to a total of 200 spins.
Jazz of New Orleans – Conclusion
Play N Go has created a solid slot, which I would say is even better than the well-known Jazz Time. The music balance is just about right, this is varied enough to keep you tapping your toes without getting repetitive, and comes to life at strategic points in the game.
It took me a long time to trigger the bonus, though with 3 wilds the wins were very good when this did start. The jackpot potential adds an extra dimension too. There are no significant on-reel features, which is a small drawback of this slot. I would not let that stop you taking it for a spin. This is an excellent variation on the regular slots themes, and has enough going for it to keep you engaged.
