Irish Gold Slots
Chances are you’ll have played an Irish-themed video slot in your time. ‘The luck of the Irish’ is one of the oldest themes in the casino biz, after all; there’s just something about leprechauns, pots of gold and four-leaf clovers that developers love.
Into this crowded milieu comes Irish Gold, a classic 3-reel slot from the Play’n GO platform. The medium-volatility slot comes with 5 unfixed paylines and gives gamers the chance to go back to basics – to a time when fruit machines occupied every pub in the land, and if you wanted to make a call, you had to duck into the nearest phone box.
Newbies and experts alike are invited to have a spin on the reels of Irish Gold and attempt to find matching combinations of traditional symbols, from left to right across the board. How’s your luck?
Layout
Right at the top of the screen, you’ll see the game logo, written in green. Is it really a surprise that the O in GOLD is a brimming pot of gold coins? Of course it isn’t. A rainbow arches in the impossibly blue sky, across which wispy white clouds float; the 3-reel grid is set against the backdrop of a sunny day. Sunny days are few and far between in Ireland, but this is a land of make-believe, remember!
Before you get started, use the controls at the bottom of the screen to regulate your line-stake. The minimum coin value setting you can use is a modest 0.25, rising to 5 credits. As such, you can stake a total of 25 for every spin. You can also play on one, two, three, four or five lines. When you’re ready to rock and roll, simply hit Spin or Auto Play.
Base Game
It’s a 3-reel slot, so we’re gonna go out on a limb and say that you’re unlikely to require much tuition. The aim is to spin winning combinations to trigger pay-outs. The slot grants a theoretical return of 96.01% and is available to play on desktop, tablet and mobile. The jackpot is 5,000 credits and symbols include BARs (gold, silver and bronze), pots of gold, four-leaf clovers and leprechauns. Don’t expect a ton of detail in these symbols; suffice to say they are colourful and cartoonish.
Some of the regular pay-outs include 50x your line-stake for three leprechauns, 30x for three gold BARs, 20x for three silver BARs and 10x for three bronze BARs. You’ll win 5x for a combination of any three BAR icons.
Bonus Features
Depending on how many lines you have activated, the pot of gold grants 2,500, 3,000, 3,500, 4,000 or a whopping 5,000 credits. The pot of gold is also wild, able to act as a surrogate to help you form other winning combos. It can’t stand in for the scatter, though. The wild pays 5x the combination when involved in a win, and 25x when two are involved in a win. The pay-offs drop rather steeply when you find combinations of other symbols though, as outlined above. You’ll really be looking to hit wilds as often as possible to make use of the multipliers, which will bolster your bankroll.
Irish Gold features a scatter symbol in the form of a four-leaf clover. Land two or more scatters anywhere on the reels to win a pay-out. That’s right, scatters don’t need to lay from left to right on active lines; they can be unearthed anywhere. Scatter wins are x2 for two and x25 for three. Scatter wins are multiplied by the total bet staked and added to regular line wins. Unfortunately, there are no free spins up for grab in Irish Gold.
Simple, but Fun
Irish Gold is a low-tech slot, and as such you must accept that you’re not going to be bombarded with bonus games. The 3-reeler is more simple in nature, so should appeal mostly to those who wish to spin the reels and hopefully hit a winning combination – classic slot fans, in other words, or those subsumed by a wave of nostalgia.
If you want to kill a few hours on the pokies in a bid to win some cash, we have no trouble recommending Irish Gold; but if you’re remotely demanding, you should probably take your hard-won lucre elsewhere.
