Gold Trophy Online Slot Review
There is now an updated version of this game – in the form of Gold Trophy 2. While the new game does have smarter graphics, there are still reasons to check out this Play N Go original. For a start there is a pick-em feature (where you choose a winner’s cheque) which is not included in the sequel. You also have the chance of more winning combinations – this slot has 9 lines instead of the 5 used in the updated version. Combine this with the strong game-play you’ll find on all Play N Go slots, and this becomes a (retro) game worth checking out.
Admittedly, the graphic elements do look rather dated. The blocky and flat designs that were typical of the days before illustrator and Photoshop were widely available. All the symbols follow the golfing theme, with a green, club about to tee off, buggy and golf-ball sharing the reels with playing card symbols that have golfing items associated with them. Audio is a combination of computer slot noises and the golf sounds which might have come from a video game. You’ll find the tempo increases during the free spins round.
Other than the cheque pick-em part, and the 3x multiplier on your wins, there is nothing particularly different in the game play for the bonus feature. If you did pick a reasonable number of free spins, it can be good to watch your total coins accumulate fast.
Setup and Play for Gold Trophy
There are 9 lines to select from. Like with all Play N Go slots, you get to choose both your coin amount and up to 5 coins per line. This game has a lower maximum, with 10c coins, 5 coins per line and 9 lines you will be spinning for $4.50c tops. The smallest spin is just 5c. You can use auto play, and will also be given the opportunity to gamble your wins with a playing card game.
Wilds in this game are the Gold Trophy symbol. You can win up to 2500 coins for getting 5 of these on a winning line, with 250 for 4. The trophy symbol doubles all wins which it is a part of (only once, you will not redouble for 2 wilds in combination with other symbols). The wild symbol does not substitute for the scatter (cheque).
Scatters have a dual role. First there is a significant prize, 5 of them will get you 250x your total spin amount. Second, 3 or more of them trigger the bonus game. For the regular symbols, the green is the top payer (750x for 5), with the winner’s jacket, buggy, clubs and ball all following. Remember that wild symbols will double wins from these symbols. Playing cards will contribute a lot of small wins while you play – with aces, kings, queens and jacks available.
Gold Trophy Bonus Game
There are two parts to the bonus round. First of all, when you get 3 cheques you will be asked to choose one of them by clicking on it. This will reveal a number of free spins up to 25 maximum. You then see the reels start spin (faster than the regular game) and your totals of spins remaining and coins won are displayed.
During this free spins round, all wins are tripled. If you get a wild symbol in addition to the free spins, then your win is 6x in total, since the wild doubles all wins. This means that the bonus feature has a lot of potential for big prizes.
You can retrigger for more spins with 3+ checks while the free spins are happening.
Gold Trophy 2 – Conclusion
For me the newer version looks better, though there is very little to choose between them in terms of enjoyment from the game itself. There is not a whole lot going on compared to some of the more involved Play N Go titles. At the same time this manages to be a solid and easy to play game, which will certainly attract Golf fans from all over the world.
If you enjoy the less intensive types of slot and are a golf fan, then I recommend that you take the original Gold Trophy for a spin.
