After months of demolition, just the two hotel towers remained of the Tropicana Las Vegas. And in seconds, they were gone.

used over a ton of explosives to take down the Paradise and Club Towers

In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, when most people around the US were sleeping, the last of the Trop came down in a bittersweet celebration. Controlled Demolitions, Inc. used over a ton of explosives to take down the Paradise and Club Towers as onlookers gawked at the spectacle.

Before the last structures of the Tropicana were turned to dust and rubble, Fireworks by Grucci put on a show. In addition to a fireworks performance, the company used drones to light up the sky, forming, among other things, the Tropicana logo just before the implosion.

The drones also created the image of a plunger detonator within which was the final countdown before the hotels became just a memory.

The Tropicana site is being cleared to make way for the future home of MLB’s Athletics franchise. After 67 years in Oakland, the team is moving to Las Vegas. Stadium construction is scheduled to begin in 2025 and is expected to be completed in time for the 2028 baseball season.

In the meantime, the A’s will call Sutter Health Park in Sacramento their home. There is concern about the park’s suitability for a major league club, as it seats just 10,000 and lacks most of the amenities of a big-league stadium.
