The campaign to raise the tens of millions of dollars necessary to develop a 58-foot memorial to commemorate the deadliest solo mass shooting in US history is now underway.

Clark County officials revealed the plan to develop the ‘Forever One Memorial’ on the Las Vegas Strip to remember the 60 people who died on October 1, 2017, when a shooter opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest music festival from a hotel room in the Mandalay Bay. MGM Resorts International donated two acres of land in 2021 for a memorial.

Officials don’t have an exact figure of the building costs and they plan to raise funds over the next three years. A non-profit named Vegas Strong Fund formed to support victims of the attack is driving these efforts, seeking public donations and grants from the state and federal governments.

A county committee has already approved the design of the memorial that will be built on the site of the shooting:

The 58-foot ‘Tower of Light’ represents the 58 people who died initially as a result of the shooting, with the pedestrian path shaped as an infinity symbol. The circular chamber surrounding the structure will have 22,000 points of light to signify the number of people at the concert on that tragic day.
