A new survey suggests DraftKings now holds the top position in the US online gambling operator rankings. Investment bank Truist Securities carried out research in which respondents stated which sports betting platform they prefered.
DraftKings received 29% of the votes, followed by FanDuel with 22%
DraftKings received 29% of the votes, followed by FanDuel with 22%. When ranking their head-to-head selection between these two giants, 61% of people sided with DraftKings. The reasons provided for preferring one over the other were quite mixed, suggesting not much difference between the two.
Interpreting the results
Summarizing the survey results, Truist Securities Analyst Barry Jonas said the data establishes DraftKings as the “clear winner,” although he believes the operators can co-exist. He also noted that the recently-launched ESPN Bet received plenty of positive feedback, which could indicate the possibility of strong growth in its market share over time.
About three-quarters of the respondents said they mainly place parlay bets, which are especially profitable for operators.
Jonas believes that the leading operators are also best at promoting responsible gambling, which stands them in good stead if there’s a regulatory crackdown.
Also leading in iGaming
DraftKings also led the way with its iGaming platform, with 27% of people preferring this offering over any other. It was followed by FanDuel with 18% support and 14% for BetMGM. About 62% of respondents said they prefer using the same platform for both their sports betting and iGaming needs.
Backing up other recent research, the overall findings found that iGaming platforms don’t eat into the profits of land-based casinos.
