IGT announced the approval through a statement on its website on Wednesday. The company’s PlayDigital senior vice president Enrico Drago commented on the news. He said the approval “notably differentiates IGT from many other B2B sports betting platform providers.”

The PlaySports platform is currently live in 16 states and more than 40 locations across the US. In addition to Nevada, PlaySports powers sports betting operations in Colorado, Oregon, Arkansas, and Virginia.

A successful field trial

Nevada gaming regulations require sports betting suppliers to carry out a field trial process for any new technology they hope to launch across the state. To this aim, IGT launched its PlaySports platform at Boyd Gaming’s Nevada properties in August 2020.

In addition to installing PlaySports Kiosks at its brick-and-mortar sportsbooks, Boyd Gaming also utilized the platform for its mobile and online sports betting website. The operator relaunched its B Connected Sports offering in September last year with newly integrated PlaySports technology.

In August, Drago described the company’s Boyd Gaming venture as “a dynamic omnichannel sports betting product that is sure to stand apart in Nevada.”

Boyd Gaming and IGT have worked together since 2018. In addition to running Boyd’s entire sports betting enterprise in the Nevada, PlaySports powers the operator’s sports wagering in Indiana, Iowa, and Mississippi, among others.

Not just sports betting

As a supplier, IGT offers gambling operators a wide-range of products. Most recently, the company has increased its focus on its cashless gaming segment, offering payment solutions which minimize the risk of infection during the COVID-19 pandemic.

the first company to introduce digital wallet technology to Nevada

In January, the supplier received Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) approval for its cashless wallet technology for slot machines. The product allows players to deposit funds digitally into slot machines without the need for a cash transaction. IGT said it was the first company to introduce digital wallet technology to Nevada.

Just this week, the supplier demonstrated its commitment to cashless solutions after signing a cross-licensing agreement with Scientific Games. The deal will allow both companies to sell the same cashless products from a combined portfolio.

“Cashless gaming is here to stay,” announced Renato Ascoli, chief executive of global gaming for IGT.
